Montessori Moment: Montessori Method and Dementia

Across the world, many centers for the elderly and people with dementia are adapting a Montessori philosophy by creating a “prepared environment” that helps them to be as independent as possible. Incorporating these ideals into care for the elderly allows them to build up self-esteem, independence, choice, and meaningful engagement.

In 2014, the Association Montessori Internationale formed a sub-committee for Dementia, Disability, and Ageing which provides resources for centers wishing to implement these methods.

Providing the elderly and disabled with dignified care is so important, and a Montessori philosophy pairs so well with this goal.

We encourage you to read more about this committee here.
