The mission of the Children's House Montessori School is to educate the human potential.

Welcome to Children’s House - Celebrating 30 years of Montessori!

The Children's House Montessori School, celebrating our thirtieth year, is a private non-profit school for children ages 18 months through third grade. We provide an exciting and nurturing environment with developmentally appropriate materials that provide experiences contributing to the growth of self-motivated, independent learners with a love for life. Our curriculum is based on the work of education pioneer Dr. Maria Montessori.

The Children's House strives to provide children with a foundation that encompasses intellectual, cultural, social, spiritual, aesthetic, and physical understanding that nurtures full selfhood and prepares them to be citizens of the world.

Beautiful, carefully prepared classroom environments invite children to explore. Education materials are self-correcting, allowing each child to develop the senses and make discoveries with the guidance of a skilled Montessori teacher.

Montessori education promotes the development of the whole child, facilitates the natural growth of self-discipline, and cultivates each child's inherent joy in learning.

Please contact us for information about our programs, admissions, tuition and schedules. We are now offering several new three morning/week options for children in the Primary (3-5 year olds) program in addition to our five-morning per week option. Happy Birthday to Children's House! 2009-2010 marks our 30th birthday. We'll be reaching out to CHMS families, faculty, and staff both old and new for a spring birthday celebration. Check us out on facebook as we update information and become a fan of Children's House!

The school playground has a fresh new look! Thank you to CedarWorks for donating two new playsets and to Children's House dad Manuel Gutierrez for donating the new playhouse. Also thank you to the many families who helped us weed flowerbeds, rake woodchips, paint the beloved firetruck and plant hedges.

Our Annual Appeal kicked off in November. Our goal this year is to raise $30,000 in honor of our thirtieth birthday. Forty percent of our families receive some form of tuition assistance, and we are committed to making Montessori education accessible through our need-based tuition assistance program which is available for all ages. $30,000 would cover most of our tuition assiantce budget for the year. For more information, please check out our giving page on this website.

Coming up... our whole school holiday concert is December 22, and Christmas vacation is December 23 through January 1.

The school calendar for 2009-2010 is available in the office. You can call or email to have it sent to you.

Snow Day Policy: When the Camden Rockport Public Schools (MSAD 28) are closed due to weather, we will be closed. We will not, however, participate in delayed starts, but will maintain our usual schedule in such instances. In such cases, please travel safely and arrive when you can. Look and listen for announced school closings on local tv and radio broadcasts, www.knox.villagesoup.com or telephone the schoo, 236-2911, for a recorded announcement after 6:30 a.m.

Dr. Maria Montessori:

Our aim therefore is not merely to make the child understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but to so touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his inmost core.
