Children's House Montessori School

The mission of the Children's House Montessori School is to educate the human potential.

Happy Birthday to Children's House! 2009-2010 marks our 30th birthday. Our 30th Anniversary Celebration and Reunion is scheduled for June 5 at Children's House. All past and current students, families, staff, and boardmembers are invited to come back to Montessori for the afternoon, remember good times and renew old friendships. We are trying to gather names and addresses from the past 30 years. If you have class lists from the early 80s or early 90s, please let us know.

Our Annual Appeal kicked off in November. Our goal this year is to raise $30,000 in honor of our thirtieth birthday. Forty percent of our families receive some form of tuition assistance, and we are committed to making Montessori education accessible through our need-based tuition assistance program which is available for all ages. $30,000 would cover most of our tuition assiantce budget for the year. For more information, please check out our giving page on this website.

Open House Saturday, March 6, 10-noon. The public, particularly prospective families, is invited to visit Children's House, tour our classrooms, check out the Montessori materials, meet teachers and current parents, and learn more about our programs and admissions. Please call or email the office if you have questions. We will hold a second Open House, in conjunction with other local independent schools, on Saturday, April 10, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

CedarWorks Raffle tickets go on sale March 8. Wait until you see what you can win this year! The drawing is scheduled for Friday, April 2. We will have a link to the raffle page coming in March.

Snow Day Policy: When the Camden Rockport Public Schools (MSAD 28) are closed due to weather, we will be closed. We will not, however, participate in delayed starts, but will maintain our usual schedule in such instances. In such cases, please travel safely and arrive when you can. Look and listen for announced school closings on local tv and radio broadcasts, www.knox.villagesoup.com or telephone the schoo, 236-2911, for a recorded announcement after 6:30 a.m.

Welcome to Children’s House - Celebrating 30 years of Montessori!

The Children's House Montessori School, celebrating our thirtieth year, is a private non-profit school for children ages 18 months through fourth grade. We provide an exciting and nurturing environment with developmentally appropriate materials that provide experiences contributing to the growth of self-motivated, independent learners with a love for life. Our curriculum is based on the work of education pioneer Dr. Maria Montessori.

The Children's House strives to provide children with a foundation that encompasses intellectual, cultural, social, spiritual, aesthetic, and physical understanding that nurtures full selfhood and prepares them to be citizens of the world.

Beautiful, carefully prepared classroom environments invite children to explore. Education materials are self-correcting, allowing each child to develop the senses and make discoveries with the guidance of a skilled Montessori teacher.

Montessori education promotes the development of the whole child, facilitates the natural growth of self-discipline, and cultivates each child's inherent joy in learning.

Please contact us for information about our programs, admissions, tuition and schedules. We are now offering several new three morning/week options for children in the Primary (3-5 year olds) program in addition to our five-morning per week option. Please call or email the Children's House office, 236-2911 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Dr. Maria Montessori:

Like others, I had believed that it was necessary to encourage a child by means of some exterior reward that would flatter his baser sentiments such as gluttony, vanity or self-love, in order to foster in him a spirit of work and peace. And I was astonished when I learned that a child who is permitted to educate himself really gives up these lower instincts. I then urged the teachers to cease handing out the ordinary prizes and punishments, which were no longer suited to our children, and to confine themselves to directing them gently in their work.
