The mission of the Children's House Montessori School is to educate the human potential.

Welcome to Children’s House!

The Children's House Montessori School, entering it's thirtieth year, is a private non-profit school for children ages 18 months through third grade. We provide an exciting and nurturing environment with developmentally appropriate materials that provide experiences contributing to the growth of self-motivated, independent learners with a love for life. Our curriculum is based on the work of education pioneer Dr. Maria Montessori.

We are currently enrolling children for 2009-2010.  In addition to our current schedule for Toddlers, Primary and Elementary students, next year we will offer several new three morning/week options for children in the Primary (3-5 year olds) program as well as Before and After School Care for Primary and Elementary children. Please call or email the Children's House office, 236-2911 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Our school year ends Tuesday, June 9. The school office will be open during the summer Monday though Wednesday mornings. We can also be reached by phone message or email, and we are happy to set up appointments to tour the school outside of regular office hours. Please bring your children and join us at one of our Toddler and Primary Open Houses this summer! The school will be open to the public on Tuesday, June 30 and Friday, July 31 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for families to visit. Spend the morning exploring our classrooms and Montessori materials. Meet teachers and other parents. You can learn about Montessori and Children's House while your child plays.

The school playground is open to the public all summer. We love to see it used by local families and visitors. Please help us keep it looking neat by throwing away your trash, and please be aware, we have no public restroom facilities.

The school calendar for 2009-2010 will be finalized and available by the end of June.

We hope you have a wonderful summer!

Dr. Maria Montessori:

Like others, I had believed that it was necessary to encourage a child by means of some exterior reward that would flatter his baser sentiments such as gluttony, vanity or self-love, in order to foster in him a spirit of work and peace. And I was astonished when I learned that a child who is permitted to educate himself really gives up these lower instincts. I then urged the teachers to cease handing out the ordinary prizes and punishments, which were no longer suited to our children, and to confine themselves to directing them gently in their work.
