The mission of the Children's House Montessori School is to educate the human potential. "The real preparation for education is the study of one’s self. The training of the teacher… is something far more than the learning of ideas. It includes the training of character; it is preparation of the spirit." - Maria Montessori Families who choose the Children's House become part of a community dedicated to nurturing each child’s fullest potential and natural love of learning. Teachers in carefully prepared classroom settings cultivate inquiry, exploration, independence, self-confidence, and care for the self and others. Parents, faculty, staff, and board members form a strong partnership in service to the children. Multi-age classes encourage interaction for shared learning, peer teaching, and the development of each child intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually. Children journey through sequential programs; each teacher and classroom environment are prepared to meet students’ needs at specific developmental stages. The Children’s House continues the legacy of Dr. Montessori in the school’s commitment to creating a culture of peace through respect and trust for each child. In this sense, all Montessori education is peace education, as much about how learning occurs within community as it is about the actual materials and academic curriculum. CHMS is a joyful place, filled with the sounds of children engaged alone or in company with their own chosen activities. For this, they are guided by a clearly structured environment, thoughtfully designed materials, and loving teachers, to experience freedom within limits for which Montessori education is known.
